About Us
Our name Art played an essential role in the construction of the Mishkan, the Aron, and the menorah inside. Accordingly, Moses introduces the first biblical artist, "the Lord has singled out by name Bezalel. . .and has endowed him with a divine spirit of skill, ability and knowledge."
Our Story In November of 2010 Louise Blank recognized the need for an organization that would help support and promote Professional Jewish Artists in Calgary. After placing several calls for artists in the community, the "first generation" of artists came through the doors and met at the Calgary Jewish Community Center.
Betzalel Arts was recognized as a program of the Calgary Jewish Community Center in March of 2011. The program's goals include nurturing and promoting the arts as well as adhering to professional artistic standards.
The Betzalel Arts program is geared towards professional artists who already have experience exhibiting their work and consider art their main passion and profession.
Our Logo
The Betzalel Arts logo was designed as a symbol of unity for artists in all media and of all backgrounds. The color swatches help represent the two-dimensional artists while the ochre background represents the three-dimensional artists who commonly work with wood, clay, or metal. As well, the different colors in the swatches help represent our various backgrounds. At the center, the star of David represents the Jewish heritage that is the common link among the artists in this group.
