Mali Vargas, also known as Mali Docktor, was born in Madison, WI and spent ten of her younger years in Mexico City. She is an artist currently residing in Calgary, AB.
Mali holds a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin and is a juried member of the Alberta Society of Artists. As well, she is a founding member and Program Coordinator for Betzalel Arts at the Calgary JCC.
Mali's expression in art has been highly process oriented and relates to the material properties and interactions of layers. Currently, Vargas is concentrating on a series of paintings relating to the emotional expression of sensations based on memories and dream-like qualities. The work is accomplished through the use of intense colors and varieties of stroke and layers.
Mali Vargas' work resides in private collections in Mexico, Switzerland, USA, and Canada. She is currently represented by Evanescence Gallery in High River, AB and by Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ.
